Barbara Abel is a Belgian author born in Brussels in 1969 who writes French-language crime fiction and psychological thrillers. After studying theater and Romance philology, she published her first novel, L'Instinct maternel, in 2002; it won the Cognac Crime Novel Prize. Her suspense novels often explore claustrophobic family relationships and have been translated and adapted for television and film, including Derrière la haine, adapted as Duelles.
