Gaëlle Bélem is a French writer from Réunion Island who began publishing with her debut novel Un monstre est là, derrière la porte in 2020, earning the Grand Prix du Roman Métis and the Prix André Dubreuil du Premier Roman. Her second novel, The Rarest Fruit, a fictionalized historical biography of Edmond Albius, was published in French in 2023 and in English in 2025. She has also published Sud Sauvage, a collection of fantastic stories set on Réunion Island.
