Valerie Martin is an American novelist and short-story writer whose career spans literary, historical, and gothic fiction, as well as children’s fiction and biography. She is the author of Mary Reilly, Property, The Ghost of the Mary Celeste, I Give It to You, and Mrs. Gulliver, and has received the Kafka Prize, Britain’s Orange Prize, an NEA grant, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. She has also taught creative writing at several colleges.
