Margaret Wise Brown (1910–1952) was an influential American author and editor who helped shape the modern picture book. After working as an editor at William R. Scott, she began writing full time in 1941 and published more than 100 books, including Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. Her writing emphasized young children’s everyday sensory experiences, rhythmic language, imagination, and collaboration with innovative illustrators.
