Robert Morgan (born October 3, 1944, in Hendersonville, North Carolina) is an American poet, novelist, short-story writer, and nonfiction author whose work often draws on Appalachian history, culture, and family life. He began publishing poetry in the late 1960s, later returning to fiction with novels including Gap Creek, This Rock, The Road from Gap Creek, and Chasing the North Star. He has also written historical biographies and nonfiction, including Boone: A Biography and Lions of the West, and taught creative writing and literature at Cornell University for more than five decades.
