Ryka Aoki is an American poet, novelist, essayist, and composer whose writing often explores queer, transgender, Asian American, and Hawaiian experiences. She published the poetry and prose collection Seasonal Velocities in 2012, followed by the novels He Mele a Hilo and Light from Uncommon Stars, the latter receiving major award recognition and nominations. She holds an MFA in creative writing from Cornell University and teaches English at Santa Monica College.
