Neil Sheehan (1936–2021) was an American journalist and nonfiction author who began as a United Press International correspondent in Vietnam before joining The New York Times, where he covered Southeast Asia, the Pentagon, and the White House. He obtained the Pentagon Papers in 1971, and later wrote acclaimed books on the Vietnam War and U.S. national security, including The Arnheiter Affair, After the War Was Over, A Bright Shining Lie, and A Fiery Peace in a Cold War. A Bright Shining Lie won the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction and the National Book Award.
