Andreas Kollender (born 1964 in Duisburg, Germany) studied German and philosophy in Düsseldorf and has worked as a freelance author in Hamburg since 1995. He writes literary historical novels centered on compelling real-life figures, including Fritz Kolbe, Carl Schurz, Ludwig Meyer, and Stephen Crane, and also teaches creative writing. He received the Ruhr Literature Prize in 2004.
