Leon Uris (1924–2003) was an American novelist, journalist, and screenwriter whose writing career began with Battle Cry (1953), based on his experience as a U.S. Marine in World War II. He became an international bestseller with sweeping, heavily researched historical novels including Exodus, Mila 18, Armageddon, Trinity, and The Haj, often focusing on war, nationalism, ethnic conflict, and the founding of modern Israel. He also wrote screenplays and nonfiction works, including books about Ireland and Jerusalem.
