Tony Judt (1948–2010) was a British historian, author, essayist, and professor who specialized in modern European history. After early work on French socialism and intellectual history, he became widely known for Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945 and for essays and books examining politics, culture, social democracy, and the twentieth century. He taught at Cambridge, Oxford, Berkeley, and New York University, where he founded the Remarque Institute.
