Milton Friedman (1912–2006) was an American economist and influential nonfiction author whose writing brought monetary economics, free-market theory, and public policy debates to academic and popular audiences. A professor at the University of Chicago and later a senior research fellow at Stanford’s Hoover Institution, he wrote major works including Capitalism and Freedom, A Monetary History of the United States, Money Mischief, and Free to Choose, the latter coauthored with Rose Friedman.
