Richard Haass is an American diplomat, foreign-policy scholar, and nonfiction author. He has written or edited more than fifteen books, primarily on U.S. foreign policy, international relations, global affairs, and political strategy, including The World: A Brief Introduction, A World in Disarray, and The Bill of Obligations. He served as president of the Council on Foreign Relations for twenty years and has held senior positions in the U.S. State Department, Defense Department, White House, and National Security Council.
