Sarah Bakewell is a British nonfiction author who studied philosophy at the University of Essex and worked for ten years as a curator of early printed books at London’s Wellcome Library. She became a full-time writer in 2002 and is known for accessible biographies and intellectual histories that combine philosophical ideas with lively narrative. Her books include The Smart, The English Dane, How to Live, At the Existentialist Café, and Humanly Possible.
