Elie Wiesel (1928–2016) was a Romanian-born American writer, journalist, professor, and Holocaust survivor. He began his writing career as a journalist and went on to publish more than 50 works of fiction and nonfiction, including the memoir Night, novels, essays, and plays. His writing explored the Holocaust, memory, Jewish history, faith, and moral responsibility, earning him the 1986 Nobel Peace Prize.
