Frank McCourt (1930–2009) was an Irish-American writer best known for his memoir Angela’s Ashes, which won the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography and established his literary career late in life. He followed it with the memoirs ’Tis and Teacher Man, drawing on his childhood in Limerick, immigration to the United States, and thirty years teaching in New York City high schools. He also wrote the children’s book Angela and the Baby Jesus and performed with his brother Malachy in a stage work about their Irish youth.
