Michael Collins (1930–2021) was an Apollo 11 astronaut whose clear, candid memoir Carrying the Fire: An Astronaut’s Journeys became a landmark work of spaceflight literature. He also wrote Flying to the Moon and Other Strange Places, Liftoff: The Story of America’s Adventure in Space, and Mission to Mars, combining personal memoir, space-program history, and accessible science writing for general and younger readers.
