John Drake is a British author originally from the Wirral who worked in television for ICI Pharmaceuticals after training as a biochemist, then became a full-time writer in 1999. He writes swashbuckling naval and historical adventures, including the Fletcher series and his Treasure Island prequels, as well as humorous speculative fiction such as Making Man, Killing Chance, and Zoomers. His comic style is influenced by Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett.
