Louise Shanks Maude (1855–1939) was an English translator born in Moscow who worked with her husband, Aylmer Maude, on influential English translations of Leo Tolstoy’s major works, including War and Peace, Anna Karenina, Resurrection, and numerous shorter works. She primarily translated Tolstoy’s fiction, while Aylmer handled more of the philosophical material, and the couple continued promoting Tolstoy’s writing after moving from Russia to England in 1897.
