Abraham Cahan (1860–1951) was a Lithuanian-born Jewish-American novelist, journalist, editor, and socialist activist. He immigrated to New York in 1882 and became a leading voice of the Jewish immigrant community, later serving for nearly five decades as editor of the Yiddish-language newspaper The Forward. His fiction, including Yekl: A Tale of the New York Ghetto, The Imported Bridegroom, and The Rise of David Levinsky, explored immigration, assimilation, labor, poverty, and Jewish life in New York.
