Nella Larsen (1891–1964) was an American novelist and short-story writer associated with the Harlem Renaissance. She published the novels Quicksand (1928) and Passing (1929), whose psychologically rich narratives examine race, gender, class, sexuality, and identity in early twentieth-century America. After a brief but influential writing career, she returned to nursing.
