John Dos Passos (1896–1970) was an American novelist, journalist, poet, and political writer. After serving as a World War I ambulance driver and working as a correspondent, he became a leading modernist novelist with Three Soldiers, Manhattan Transfer, and the politically charged U.S.A. trilogy. He published more than 40 books and later shifted from left-wing to conservative political views.
