"Under the Knife" explores the complex cultural and psychological dimensions of women’s pursuit of natural-looking cosmetic surgery through in-depth interviews with 46 women. The book examines how women navigate societal expectations, personal motivations, and notions of femininity, while addressing themes of agency, empowerment, and boundary work. It offers an intersectional analysis of body enhancement, shedding light on the contradictory gendered meanings tied to women’s bodies and authenticity.
