Ret McCoy, a long-time newcomer to Riverton, and his friends plan a fun summer before starting seventh grade, including working at the local mortuary. Their curiosity leads them to challenge a dare by exploring the infamous Crooked House, uncovering its dark history. When strange disappearances begin after the house is sold, Ret becomes determined to unravel the mystery before it endangers the entire town, uncovering dangers more terrifying than he imagined.
