Ruby operates waldoes, autonomous machines she controls for various jobs across a sunken, greenhouse-heated New York City, with her favorite being a large, remote-operated Golem. She prefers to keep her distance from the Outside, but her life takes a turn after a rescue attempt involving a dying client and some stolen diamonds. As events unfold, Ruby faces unexpected challenges that might force her to venture beyond her usual boundaries.
