The Fisher King

In 1949, jazz pianist Sonny-Rhett Payne moved from New York to Paris to escape racism and familial disapproval, and now his grandson visits New York for a memorial concert. During this visit, the young boy begins to explore the history and motivations behind Sonny’s decision to leave. Paule Marshall, an acclaimed author and professor, brings this compelling story rooted in themes of race, family, and exile.
