A Lily of the Field

Set against the backdrop of Nazi-occupied Europe and World War II, the story follows Meret Voytek, a young student observing the impact of the war on Vienna's Jewish community, and Dr. Karel Szabo, a Hungarian physicist caught during the conflict. Their lives intertwine as Szabo is recruited by the Americans to develop an atomic bomb, leading them from Europe to New Mexico and London. The narrative explores their journeys through the ravages of war and the moral complexities of scientific discovery.
