The Penitent Thief

Set in the 19th century, this historical murder mystery follows Captain Barnwell as he investigates a series of thefts that culminate in a brutal murder, with suspicion falling on a former thief named Rutherford Nordlinger. As the case unfolds, Carl Brooke becomes personally involved in questioning Nordlinger's guilt. In the style reminiscent of Arthur Conan Doyle, author Clay Boutwell reintroduces the Agora Society and its scholar, Carl Brooke, in this second novella of the series.
