Daniel

Set in 1875, this compelling story follows Hans Bengler, an entomologist who, on his expedition to the Kalahari Desert, encounters a traumatised young boy named Daniel from a decimated tribe. Taking him to Sweden with hopes of civilising him, Bengler's tale explores the profound challenges of cultural clash, isolation, and the emotional toll on a child caught between worlds. Through vivid psychological insight and evocative storytelling, Henning Mankell delves into themes of identity, belonging, and the tragic consequences of misunderstanding.
