The Voyage of Their Lives

In August 1948, a diverse group of 545 passengers embarked on the overcrowded vessel Derna, seeking a new life in Australia and New Zealand amid post-war hardship and displacement. Through the recollections, memorabilia, and archival records of over a hundred passengers, Diane Armstrong has vividly recreated their voyage and explored the future journeys of those onboard. This memoir offers a compelling and unique portrayal of a migrant ship and its passengers.
