After her parents' deaths leave Lee as a two-thirds owner of a newly discovered habitable planet, she is determined to continue exploring the stars, despite facing prejudice and hostility on various worlds. Raised aboard a ship by her non-human guardian Gordon, she floats the idea of an adventurous, deep-space expedition into unknown territory.
