Keona Rause, after a five-year break following the death of his wife and fellow agent, returns to the distant colony world of Magenta with an artificial replica of her personality, built from her digital traces. As he investigates her mysterious death, he uncovers dark secrets linked to a sinister group and the alien Masters, while grappling with complex feelings toward the simulacrum.
