On her sixteenth birthday, Hollis Timewire learns she cannot become a citizen of the world due to her status as a Diseased One, a person with dangerous, brain-altering powers. Living underground with others who believe the government has covered up their genocide, Hollis is driven to uncover the truth about her identity and her world. She is willing to take risks, including risking her powers, to seek the truth and find her way back home.
