Rocky Mountain Harry Yount

By the mid-19th century, the mountain men of the American West were a diverse group of roughly three thousand individuals from various backgrounds, including Anglo-Americans, French Canadians, Creole-Europeans, Métis, and Native Americans. They often began their adventurous lives in their late teens or early twenties, facing constant physical and environmental challenges. Over time, their roles expanded beyond solitary trapping to become guides, scouts, and veterans of frontier life, as new opportunities emerged for settlers, prospectors, and lawmen amidst the westward expansion.
