Poppy Duveen, once an East End girl who became a stage star, leaves her career to marry Freddie Plummett, but after his death, she finds herself entangled with Freddie’s formidable uncle, Hugo, the Duke of Guildham. Struggling with her feelings and her desire to prove herself, she plans a bold return to her theatrical roots and aims to conquer London, challenging the snobbery of her new, aristocratic surroundings.
