As he grapples with deep theological questions and faces harrowing adventures—spanning ages and realms of creation—Ilthaliel confronts the choice between loyalty to his Archon’s choir and joining Melphax in an elite operation known as the Smoke Column. This memoir explores the tension between mysticism and scholarship, as Ilthaliel stands against Fallen gods and seeks to fulfill his duty in the War for Souls amidst a post-cataclysmic world.
