A Special Mission

In September 1943, as German troops occupied Rome, SS General Karl Wolff found himself in a perilous position, tasked with the audacious plan to kidnap Pope Pius XII and deport the city's Jews to Auschwitz. Wolff, however, sought to outwit Adolf Hitler by stalling the execution of the orders, believing the pope could be a bargaining chip for his own survival in a potentially lost war. In a desperate attempt to protect Pius, Wolff and his co-conspirators resorted to blackmail, hoping to manipulate events to spare both the pope and the Jewish community.
