Winnie’s hopeful childhood takes an unexpected turn when she becomes pregnant at a young age and embarks on a journey across the country with Billy. Alone and with her child in a new land, she eventually meets Colt, a fisherman who becomes a surrogate father to her daughter, Sarah. Nearly six years later, Colt and Sarah set out on a journey back to Winnie’s hometown, encountering strange and wonderful sights along the way as they seek out Sarah’s grandmother.
