The Gonif

A rare, two-century-old Torah, smuggled out of a North African Jewish community during World War II, ends up hidden in a small Hollywood Sephardic temple, but its tranquility is disturbed when someone attempts to steal it. Amos Parisman, an aging and skeptical private investigator, is brought in to prevent the theft, leading him into a perilous world of international art and antiquities. The story explores themes of history, value, and danger lurking behind the pursuit of priceless artifacts.
