On a remote beach near Sydney in 1797, three badly injured shipwreck survivors are discovered after a harrowing and mysterious journey. Lieutenant Joshua Grayling investigates their evasive accounts and uncovers troubling secrets behind the deaths of their companions. As the story unfolds, he begins to suspect that a calculating mind may pose a threat to those he cares about.
