When space freighter pilot Calen Macleef wins Larissa "Bit" Earnest in a game of poker, he faces concern over how his no-nonsense brother, Jack, will react to her presence on their ship. As Bit navigates her past traumas among a rowdy crew in a universe where space travel is still new and piracy is common, Jack works to ensure her safety and comfort.
