Dexter Grant, a down-on-his-luck pet store owner in Portland, secretly calls himself a "Kitten Superhero" as he saves stray animals, but his magical potential is limited by the Fates, three of the universe's controllers now on the run. When the Fates seek his help to regain their power, Dexter encounters Vivian Kineally, a psychic comic book lover who is unaware of her magical connections.
