In 19th-century New York City, Grace Knox balances her family's struggles with debt and her hopes for a proposal from childhood friend Patrick Devlin, who is involved in the Fenian Brotherhood. This group of Irish American men seeks independence for Ireland, invoking ancient magic to summon legendary warriors, including Diarmid, who becomes enamored with Grace. As rival warriors emerge, Grace finds herself torn between two loves and realizes she possesses a unique power to alter the fate of Ireland, though it comes at a perilous cost.
