Jock McLaren, a Scottish-born Australian, became a legendary guerrilla fighter during World War II after escaping from Singapore's Changi POW camp. His daring exploits included a dangerous sea crossing in a dugout canoe followed by two years of combat with American-led Filipino guerrillas, where he evaded capture despite the Japanese placing a bounty on his head. With his whaleboat, the Bastard, he launched audacious attacks on enemy harbors and later joined Australia's secretive Z Special Unit for critical reconnaissance missions in Borneo. An extraordinary survivor, McLaren once performed his own appendectomy using improvised tools, showcasing his resilience and resourcefulness in the face of danger.
