Bessie is both eager and hesitant as she steps into her new position in Andrew Cheatham's cold case unit, where her first case centers on a missing five-year-old girl possibly murdered by her father. Complicating matters, Bessie becomes involved in the plight of Sandra, a local shop worker accused of theft and desperate to prove her innocence without police intervention. As Bessie navigates these intertwined investigations with the assistance of her friends and two Scotland Yard detectives, she must confront her doubts about her role and the effectiveness of the cold case unit.
