The House of Scorta

Winner of France's most prestigious literary prize, this epic novel set in southern Italy follows the five-generation saga of the Scorta family, beginning in 1870 with Rocco Scorta Mascalzone. Through a lyrical and linear narrative, the story explores themes of love, lies, pride, and resilience, as told through the recollections of old Carmela in her final confession. Translated by Stephen Sartarelli and Sophie Hawkes, it weaves a compelling tale grounded in family history and shared memories.
