Facing mounting medical bills and other challenges, Linda Grant informs her children that Christmas will be canceled this year. While older son Keith accepts the news calmly, younger son Teddy reacts with anger, determined to have his traditional Christmas turkey. When a visit from a neighborhood schoolteacher brings an unexpected invitation to dinner from Linda's estranged cousin, Cornelia Millar, the possibility of celebrating Christmas begins to emerge.
