Death in the Great Dismal

Set in September 1800 in Maine, this story follows Will Rees as he heads south to Virginia at the request of his old friend Tobias, aiming to help transport his pregnant wife, Ruth, back north. Accompanied by his wife Lydia, they navigate the tense and distrustful community of escaped slaves hiding in the Great Dismal Swamp, where danger looms from both within and outside the community. When a mysterious death occurs, Will and Lydia become embroiled in a perilous situation amid the threat of slave catchers and local conflicts.
