In "The Soul of Man," an 1891 essay by Oscar Wilde, the author presents a critique of charity and advocates for a libertarian socialist perspective shaped by his adoption of anarchist philosophy. Wilde argues that under capitalism, individuals often hinder their own potential through misguided altruism, focusing on temporary remedies for poverty instead of addressing its root causes. He calls for a societal reconstruction that eliminates poverty entirely, emphasizing the necessity of genuine change over superficial solutions.
