The Ghosts of NASCAR

The Ghosts of NASCAR explores the roots of stock car racing in the Midwest, focusing on the legendary 1959 Daytona 500 and the rivalry among local drivers Johnny Beauchamp, Dale Swanson, and Tiny Lund. Through interviews, film analysis, and historical research, author John Havick traces how these young men from Harlan, Iowa, pursued their passion for racing amidst limited opportunities. The book offers a detailed look at their journey from regional racers to competitors on the national stage, highlighting the broader story of American auto racing in the 1950s.
