In 1969 Czechoslovakia, seventeen-year-old Pavol's tragic act of self-immolation in protest against the government's oppression sparks a government investigation into his friends. Štepán grapples with his Olympic hockey aspirations and must hide his sexual identity, while Tomáš faces pressure to conform to societal norms amid accusations of "antisocial" behavior. Meanwhile, Lida, Pavol's pregnant girlfriend, struggles with the stigma of guilt by association. As their futures hang in the balance, they must each confront the choice of enduring their oppressive reality or risking a dangerous escape for freedom.
